Transgender people require a change of name and sex marker (male or female) in their official documents while undergoing or after undergoing sex reassignment. Failure to have amendments of these particulars put their lives in danger and places barriers to accessing services. This is the judgment of a bench in the High Court of Botswana at Lobaste which directed their government to amend the sex marker of the national identification card and birth certificate of a transgneder man (female-to-male). This important milestone gave transgender people opportunities to compete with their cisgender peers at a level playing field without discrimination and violence. Transgender people continue to promote and safeguard their human rights.
Africa is moving forward.
